You have taught me to appreciate bars more than I ever would have. There is something cinematic about sitting and talking in them. Agreed that thirsty crow is #1! Happy birthday, you are loved.

So many dive bars, so few memories.

I was never one for the bar scene back in my single days (I didn't love beer and I didn't have much money so it was kind of, why bother?), and then I was in a relationship with someone who didn't love bars or beer, and she's still here and now we're already in our sleep clothes when you young folks are headed out. BUT...about ten years ago I was stuck in Toronto for a miserable winter doing a kids tv show with a lot of lonely nights at a hotel whose restaurant menu was limited. I found a lovely place near the hotel with great food, ample seating at the bar and plenty of exciting Canadian sports on TV, like hockey...um...curling, and...um...I said hockey already, right? The two young bartenders treated me like a minor celebrity and instead of the typical dynamic where the customer tells the bartender his/her/their problems, I became the wise elder with the kind eyes to whom these two kids poured out their problems. In a very small way, it was the sense of community you talk about, and it made me feel useful.

Happy birthday! Being able to celebrate at a great neighborhood tavern with all your best buds is the best birthday present! πŸŽ‚πŸŒˆπŸΊπŸ’™
