I've never been the best man. Sigh. The second best man, I always figured when I stood in the line of groomsman, looking around, thinking I MUST be the second best man, look at these losers, it must have been a tough decision for the groom to pick the other guy rather than me as the best man, so I don't blame him, even though it was the wrong choice, I probably would have lost the ring anyway, now let's party.
Key to a wedding speech is 5 minutes ..Father of the Bride..maybe 7 or 8 . And, one must limit ones enjoyment of any libations until one has given the speech..Oh...and, if possilbe, include your partner in the speech. I had Laurie up there with me and with a key line in my Father of the Bride speech..All that I really needed
I’ve never been a best man, but what about this one. A couple of weeks before the biggest day of my life - my WEDDING - my best man called to ask if we could have lunch. We met in a hole-in-the-wall deli in Times Square where he proceeded to tell me that he couldn’t be my best man because he didn’t think the marriage would last. I was shocked! He was totally uncomfortable with the whole thing and backed out. Luckily, and thankfully, a true friend jumped at taking on the role of best man. My partner and I are approaching our 48th wedding anniversary soon while my original “best man” has been through two or three of his own marriages. My advice to you, Will, is that when the time comes make sure your best man is the best man for the job!
I have been a best man and like you, it was to my best friend from college, who (also like yours) was instrumental in enticing me into a life in the arts. He returned the favor when Susan and I got married, and we are best friends to this day. I hope for that same result for you!
So Nick’s best friend since age 7/8 is getting married and he’s the best man . He had to organize a bachelor’s party in Miami. A very good experience for him. And the young man getting married is also a Camelshit.
I was the best msn in 1969 for a dear friend in New Jersey..
These are two unrelated and very different experiences given the 53 years separating the two experiences.
Will, Kudos to Youd-os, for saying yes to being your friend's best man, even tho' it seems he did a floater on that apartment. I was best man at my younger brother's wedding in Ithaca, NY...and was also the photographer...tough to speak during shutter releases...don't have a clue as to what I said but Val captured those moments. I was also best man for my best friend...but that was then. I don't recall what I said then but I did loan him my video camera to him for their wedding night....shameless!
Steven & Susan were at our wedding in San Fran...no official best man...Steven was one of the chupah holders...'twas a small wedding, yet, oh so meaningful & heaped in love from all!

I think the main problem is you're just too tall! You'd tower over the groom and make the bride reconsider marrying such a diminutive man.

I kept mine to under 5 minutes even though it felt like a lifetime in front of all those people!

Wow, I would NOT trust your original best man's opinion on any serious decisions after that!

But being a best man is a special experience!
Magic. Just pure Magic.
SPOKE
your speech was incredible. as were your dancing skills. it was an honor to have you be a part of our special day.
Nothing even came close to how cool your dance was though, easily the most impressive surprise I’ve seen yet!
Sorry to say I've never had that distinction. Now I feel really bad!
There’s still time!
