I rescue some soft spinach by sauteing it into a garlic spinach side dish or incorporating it into pasta, eggs or soup! But for most situations just throw it away if it looks questionable... it's not worth the digestive nightmare LOL

I love eating leftovers. It’s fast, it’s easy and you feel like a responsible consumer limiting your carbon footprint. BUT yes, sometimes even with the best intentions, things sit too long, and I agree with the majority - when in doubt…And with lettuce it’s easy. If it starts to look and feel like the stuff my feet used to touch in Wisconsin lakes, my whole body shudders.

So, even though our kids flew the coup over 10 years ago, Cliff still loves to shop at Costco and buy in bulk, and because the amount of fresh veggies and fruit is plentiful in those containers and boxes, I feel the need use it up, and therefore cook more than the two of us can possibly eat in one sitting, so I reach for the Tupperware for all the leftovers. We have now started writing dates on all of our leftovers to get some idea when it was first cooked. It's easy to tell the ones that have really gone bad because they look like a science project, however, for the ones that are iffy? ...someone coined the phrase, "When in doubt, throw it out!" and that's exactly what I do! :)

I admitted defeat LONG before you did. Thank goodness my husband eats leftovers, or I would feel really guilty. Truth to tell, I go for the new stuff every time. Unless it's something that gets a lot better after the first time: some pastas, chili. Hot fudge sauce. Oh! You were talking about healthy food!

An absolute no. That’s why I don’t buy the healthy stuff in the first place. However, when I move on to greener pastures the autopsy will have the “I told you so granola crowd” laughing their heads off.

Eat it or throw it away is an almost daily dilemma. Cooked food is easier as you can always microwave the impurities out. Other items must pass the smell test. I used to use the taste test but that often had unpleasant consequences. In the end it comes down to, when in doubt, have a peanut butter sandwich or if the bread is questionable, peanut butter on a spoon.
