Because writing is one of the things that distinguishes us from our barbarian ancestors, mastering it is truly something to be proud of. Writing well is taking a primitive impulse to blather and making it into something truly special. The Internet has given us many opportunities to put our thoughts out for anyone to access, which is a very mixed affair. If our thoughts are rubbish, everybody with a computer can instantly find that out, and we may be subject to a barrage of derision that can reduce our egos to dribbling mucus. Congratulations to anyone brave enough to put their words out into the arena, and especially those who can tell a good tale, or make us think in a different way.
