When I was a kid I was obsessed with those giant tubes of goo that were flavored like artificial watermelon. I would eat an entire tube in one sitting while my sisters tried to pull out my hair on either side of me.
When our kids were still living at home road trips were a rare opportunity to eat fast food, even for vegetarians like me. McDonald's even came out with some pretty good wrap options. Now that it's just my husband and me we tend to pack a cooler for road trips.
That is one of the most Boomer things I've ever heard from you. And reminds me of those Progressive Insurance commercials where people are turning into their parents.
Part of the wonder of travel is discovering local culinary gems. That said, we do eat fast food on the road but then only when we really need to find a clean bathroom.
I love driving trips! And stopping for gas is always an adventure. What is in store at the mini mart?! Sour gummies, peanut M&Ms, potato chips, Diet Coke. But the most amazing stop we ever experienced, and it was epic, was Buckees In Tennessee. The size of a CostCo with anything and EVERYTHING you could want, need or desire. Phenomenal!
I love love love this one. The great open road not only inspired your food options, it inspired your writing. This one wails like a great jazz solo or (my favorite) a Mark Knopfler guitar break. Really really fun!
Road trips are so much fun and adventurous! We usually pack a cooler with all the things that are mostly healthy and refreshing like water, fruit, nuts, a bag of chips, but the truth is secretly I want Fries and a shake from McDonalds and once in a while we just pull in and indulge!!

Yes! Road trips are the best. Gummies, chips, sunflower seeds and mini donuts for me. I need that road trip!
