I absolutely adore house sitting ESPECIALLY when there are dogs involved. That being said, I am picky. If the human/ house that comes with the dog is super messy & dirty, I will be politely declining the offer. (Otherwise I’ll be spending the first 3 days deep cleaning their house)

Personally I like when a house comes with rules because then I know what is allowed or isn’t. Or what is expected of me or isn’t. IE can I (should I) water the plants? Wash all the sheets before I leave? Are there food allergies or can I roast some peanuts?

All of my house sitting has been on the east coast - I hope I’ll be able to do it out here too.

Will, please let us know if your parent's house needs a sitter and you're not available.

LIke you, I love house sitting. Of course, now that I'm of a certain age, that sort of opportunity doesn't come my way anymore, and the last time my lovely wife and I sort of did it, we stayed at my Aunt Lil's apartment on a visit to my mom. Lil kept kosher, and the list of rules she gave Susan about what dishes could be used with what meals so terrified Susan (who feared that accidentally using the wrong dishes at the wrong time might send Lil to hell - a place Lil's natural outlook took her to most days anyway) that we ate nothing at the apartment and I don't think Susan slept the entire time we were there. The closest experience I now have would be an air B&B or house rental, which is nice, but way more expensive than house sitting. And I'm not sure how comfy Susan would be with that either.
