Those hikes look so rad! (Minus all the blood loss…)
I love hiking a whole lot. In LA and elsewhere. My favorite hikes usually have a view and a body of water. Even a creek is a nice place to wet the bandana. Maybe we should have a book club hike one of these days??
These look great. And to make a case for L.A. hikes, have you ever tried a full-moon hike? We've gone up Mandeville a lot because it's nearby. Decades ago we did an organized one to the east...Maybe Franklin Canyon? It's nicer than the crowded trails you might find during the day. And no need for a flashlight, it's that bright.
I am up for something like this, too. And I have a strong suspicion my wife, who has the hiking calve muscles of a very attractive Roman Legionaire, would sign up in a flash.
LOVED your excellent photos and, sheesh, sorry about those mosquito bites. I LOVE hiking and have been doing it forever. When I lived in Seattle, it was great hiking in the Cascades. Now my husband and I live adjacent to Griffith Park and we can walk out of our door and climb to the top of Mt. Hollywood. We do this at least three times a week. It's wonderful and we never get tired of the terrain and the flora and fauna. But you have made me hungry to go for more in Mammoth or maybe June Mountain. Used to ski there. Haven't really done the hiking. Thanks for the inspiration!. P.S.
Benadryl makes a great cream for stopping the itch.
I used to hike 3x’s a week with a dear friend. We did 2 short hikes above La Canada where we hiked a 3 mile trail as fast as we could then we did one long hike above Arcadia on the weekend. I really miss that!
I'm more of an urban hiker. Amazing what you can uncover, even in your own "backyard" when you're not motorized. Another benefit is food, drink and bathrooms are more readily available.
Any time spent outside of urban areas is well spent. Cities are utilitarian, unnatural environments that clash with all of our genetic programming. You're living in a state that has a high diversity of scenery, and some of the most spectacular natural resources anywhere. The more you can enjoy them, and appreciate them, the richer your life will be. Not only that, but you're not far from some awesome wine-growing regions where you can combine nature with naturally fermented natural resources. Surely the best of all worlds. Cheers, Prost, L'Chaim!

Calf muscles. Or calves…I think.
