Okay, normally I wait so as not to be the first to comment because of the somewhat close connection to the author I am alleged to have. But I couldn’t resist this time. The subject matter is so perfect, so often overlooked and yet serving so noble,a purpose, and the writing is so delightfully inventive all I can say is well done! And no trees were cut down in the writing of this, either!
I think I may just have to adjust this in my life style. I have so many old towels and sheets and they just pile up in the garage. They get washed over and over again. It’s time to cut them up into a proper size and use them
Being somewhat of a gearhead, both play an important part in my life! Red ones for grease and oil, micro fiber in orange yellow green and blue for polishing my cars and motorcycle and white for general cleaning! Paper towels have a special place also, not to mention those that produce lint and those that don’t! I’ll stop here and won’t mention cleaning, that’s a whole differen’t story!
I find that paper towels are really the only thing for evil bacon eaters to use to drain the grease. Otherwise I pride myself on having a lovely collection of rags and using them all the time. Like constantly. It was a joyful day when I realized I could use a rag for some little job and throw it in the laundry and get another rag!
I have been playing with ChatGPT today and I told it to come up with 10 reasons to use paper towels instead of rags and this one is just SUCH a bot answer: . 10. Job Creation: Rags can be handmade or repurposed, contributing to sustainable practices and supporting local artisans and businesses.
i grew up in a Bounty household that treated them like rags. we weren’t allowed to one and done them - after using the Bounty for something that didn’t really soil it (to get crumbs, or dry an apple, or make a cold compress) we were then to rinse it, and put it in the drawer with the rest of the used Bounty’s. and then those were to be used for floor spills, grease, drying dishes, etc. til this day I can’t bring myself to buy a brand other than Bounty, or refer to a paper towel as a paper towel. (or use a rag for that matter.) But i am super impressed with rag households!!

No one ever has ever been a, "Paper towels to riches," story, so I think you're on the right track.
Rags whenever possible, for sure. Thank you for shedding light on this issue!
The great thing about rags is that they can come from anything. And yet, you know it's a rag, no matter the origin. One of life's little mysteries.
