Thanks to you, I appreciate an outdoor run now! I still hate running but I love having an excuse to be outside on a lunch break. And the faster you run, the more you get to see in an hour.

Leaving a detailed description of my highly complex workout regimen might intimidate some so I'll simply say that I did not let the pandemic alter my routine.

Yeah, well, fitness and it's pursuit have morphed from a biological imperative (running down a wildebeest, or running from a cave bear) to a compulsion (pursuit of the runners' high) or a status symbol (owning a massive fitness machine in a dedicated room). Don't get me wrong, I think everybody should be in good health, including stamina and moderate weight. Basic fitness is part of basic health self-care. Your approach seems to be rational and realistic, do your thing and don't be shamed by the golden boys and girls who get all the attention and self-love they crave. Don't let your ying overwhelm your yang, take it easy on the Cheetos, and you'll find that comfort zone we all really need.

Oh, gyms. So wonderful when you're leaving. So hard to walk into. When I was an actor it was a great place to pretend I was doing something for my career; you know, transforming myself like Kumail Nanjiani from a comic sidekick into an action hero (it worked out even worse for me than him) but age, kids (actually only one but he was soooo demanding) and work (which turned out to be writing so god knows I could have used a gym even more) eventually led me to recognize I was going to be the "before" picture rather than the "after" and I should just accept that. I used to hate/love running - hated starting but loved it when the endorphins kicked in at about the half to 3/4 mile mark - but a few years ago I began to notice my vaunted sense of balance was not what it had been. Uneven bits of sidewalk, tree roots and little rock outcroppings on bridle trails that I had once dodged without effort kept tripping me up. So now it's just yoga and the set of ten and twenty pound weights the author gifted me a couple Christmases ago. There's a pool just about twenty-five feet from my bed I keep thinking about using for laps but it's so cold! Maybe next summer.

I looked at Eqiinox and thought the same thing: HOW MUCH? So I'm at 24 Hour Fitness which probably should be called no equipment newer that 2 to 4 years. But honestly, it's fine. I go in, do my thing, don't talk to anybody (except one guy I made the mistake of answering a question from once) and then go to McDonald's for breakfast. The perfect yin and yang
