Hilarious, Will. For us, it's leaf blowers. Even the battery powered ones are hard to bear. And then comes guilt .... if I did my OWN gardening, would I rake? Would I break the law by hosing? And so on ...
I have to second the comment of Lee Chemel. Leaf blowers are an almost constant in our neighborhood. More and more of them are going to battery power and, probably because I've listened to too much loud rock for too many years, it doesn't bother me as much as it does Lee. And part of me is also grateful to live in an area green enough to require leaf blowers. The one thing that does make me almost nauseous is when I'm at a stop light and someone pulls up next to or behind me with a massive sound system blasting hip hop or electronica with heavy bass. That throbbing gets inside my head, my fillings, my eye sockets and my digestive tract. It feels akin to that syndrome described by people who've worked at American embassies in Cuba and a few places in Europe and got hit with what they think is some kind of Russian ultrasound weapon. But it only lasts until the light changes and I can pull away. Not nearly as bad as having a construction zone.outside your window.
We live on a bluff overlooking the main beach in town. The views are spectacular. The summertime noise (loud music, police bullhorns, motorcycles rumbling by) can be annoying, but we accept that it all "comes with the territory". There is one exception, the annual weeklong air show. We're at the epicenter, where the jets do there window rattling vertical climbing, the precision areobatic formations race by and the crowds make maneuvering through the neighborhood nearly impossible. It's finally dawned on us that Air Show Week would be the perfect time to fly out of town.
Wow that sounds like it looks amazing and sounds horrific! We get like 1% of that where the flyovers from Dodger Stadium a few times per year and it always makes me think we’re under attack
The house next door to us started a remodel in 2020. Not finished yet. Two months ago the house behind us started a landscaping project that requires constant jackhammering of old concrete. And the house across the street has been torn down and tons of trees removed, so that's been going for a couple months -- before the new construction even starts. Right now they have three enormous yellow things digging massive holes for what I'm guessing is an underground garage and/or basement. We're surrounded.
We used to live right next to a very busy main road and it was awful. No matter the time of day, you'd hear traffic zooming by and could always smell the exhaust from all the cars. The worst though were the semis that braked really loudly.
It did provide some entertainment though sometimes; we once saw someone who took their motorcycle off the road and was walking with it on the nearby sidewalk.
I totally get this! We used to live directly next to the 101 freeway and it was SO loud but sometimes you’d see someone getting a speeding ticket or a fender bender
Very funny but so spot on! Nothing eats at ya like noise! Hell, I go out and yell at my own lawn folks about the blowers and offer to buy them electric blowers. No luck! Be safe and I have my fingers crossed this will soon pass for you two! 🙏🙏🙏🎅
You're right, noise is one of the constant irritations of the current era. And, the number of sources is ever increasing, to the point that we may soon be buffeted by a cacophony of maddening variety 24/7. Even small towns like the one I live in are besieged: we lie between two highways a railroad line and the airport approach path. At this point, I think we would welcome a chorus of 10-year cicadas as a pleasant change. And yes, there are more and more motorized lawn care machines afflicting the daylight hours. You'd think people would have had enough urban noise, without bringing it out in the 'Burbs. All you can do is put on your noise cancelling earphones and stream nature sounds until you drift off into a peaceful state of mind.

Oh man those are so annoying! And when you’re out walking and they doing notice you and you get absolutely blasted with debris!

I bet this is how your parents generation felt about rock and roll…
I.e. Phoebe Bridgers don’t need no heavy bass. Carly Jepsen, the 1975. I could go on, but I’m running out of examples.
It’s just the heavy bass. It physically hurts. I like some of “your” music.

Just imagine 6 hours a day for 5 days!
Listen…at least it’s not the rooster anymore. I’ll take construction over that screaming bird any day.
Omg so true, that kid was the WORST

Oh wow, you got the surround sound annoying noises going on!
Ha, perfect!

Leaf blowers truly are the bane of urban and suburban living
