You find yourself in the wilderness. It’s dark and you don’t really know where you are but there’s something inside you that knows you have to climb. Through the unrelenting darkness, you trek up a steep incline. At times it feels nearly vertical, but you move one leg after another trudging for what seems like forever. After a while, you reach a plateau. Looking down to where you started, an unfathomable distance fades away into the darkness. Under your feet is an undulating terrain that feels strange yet inviting. That thing inside you that pushed you to climb starts to chatter again, “Farther, higher, keep going.”
Gregor Samsa revisited! And also, the most empathy you've ever shown a spider. A sign of spiritual growth! And as my spouse commented, a very fun read!
Will, you grow as a writer with each post. For this old lady who has issues stepping off a curb, this was mesmerizing. I'm REALLY old - I think I'm a day older than your dad, who is a youngster fer sure. Great read, Will.
This beautifully summed up my experience with 1099s at work this week
Wonderful! You had me hooked the whole time as I raced to the end. I wasn't disappointed!

true, but the key word was "tossed" rather than "squashed"
