Just loved this! And since we’ve been trying hard not to pry, it was great to get filled in on the progress so far. And the farting. And the dog. And the dog’s dump. We were more broke than you when we got married so our choices were easy. Have it in a park or a friend’s backyard. Fortunately Susan’s maid of honor had parents who’d know the bride to be since childhood, and they had a perfect backyard. Even better, they were going to be out of town. So we had a great cheap wedding that ended with one of the most fun parties I’ve ever been to. And that’s what you want. Get that good DJ, otherwise you’re relying on someone like me, who took so long to put together the mixtape that the bride threatened to walk. Fortunately I did and she didn’t and we lived happily ever after. And now it’s your turn! You’ve picked the perfect person to be with, so it’s guaranteed to be a fantastic celebration no matter what venue you two decide on!
Bruce and I had been living together about 9 months. His parents were coming from Chicago to California for his cousin's wedding in 3 weeks. I said to him, let's save them a trip and get married while they're out. He said OK. Pretty darn romantic proposal. The wedding was in my parents' living room with 13 people, counting us and the judge. Then another 30 people for the backyard reception of badminton and croquet. Somehow the genetics failed and both my kids had big weddings.
We got married at the Sportsman’s Lodge (no longer there) on the hottest September 4th there ever was, outside! The record still has not been broken (110). The reception was inside but they really couldn’t cool it off well. Luckily it was a lunch inside after the outside ceremony. We had a great time anyway. And the next day flew to Hawaii, which we fell in love with. Do t worry, it all will work out. 😀😀
We had a small wedding, which we planned in 30 days. No multiple venue visits. No drawn out dress selection. Strictly must have guest list. Turned out to be a winning formula as next month will be our 55th anniversary. In the end, t's all about the commitment (and an unlimited supply of champagne).
My experience was very different. I was working on the pilot of Fall Guy in Lancaster and Steve drove up and asked me to marry him. Then we drove down to my parents so he could ask my dad. My dad was so excited he grabbed the yellow pages and found a minister who could marry up that night. So after a 4 hour engagement we were married happily for 36 years.
My wife planned her daughter's wedding which was held at a venue in the Santa Ynez Valley in June. Weddings are a very expensive proposition as I am sure you are aware. I know you want your freinds and family to celebrate with you but I have one piece of advice. If whomever is paying for the wedding offers to give you the cash instead of paying for the wedding, take it.
I'd recommend hiring a wedding planner! Makes the whole process run much more smoothly and definitely lowers stress levels. Don't get me wrong, you can't escape the stress entirely, but having a planner will do wonders. Most importantly, just remember that everything will work out in the end and the wedding is going to be great.

You're leaving out a key part of the "friend's backyard" where you got married. My lips are sealed if that's how you want it. :)
